Uzbekistan and Oman met at Oman Climate Week 2026 to turn climate cooperation into practical projects. The two countries agreed to work on desalination, wastewater treatment, salt-tolerant agriculture, desertification control and early-warning systems. Oman will share experience in groundwater recharge and integrated water management, which matters for a region where irrigation demand is high and water is scarce. Uzbekistan also used the meeting to update Oman on its climate targets: cut carbon intensity of GDP by 50% by 2035 from 2010 levels, reach carbon neutrality by 2055, and join the Global Methane Pledge. The country is building a national carbon market and setting up mechanisms under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. A planned memorandum and a presidential visit could push this beyond discussion toward joint projects.
