Utility Global signs first commercial H2Gen project agreement in South Korea for Daejeon hydrogen trams

Utility Global, a US-based industrial decarbonization company, signed an engineering services agreement with South Korea's SAMJIN E&I for a H2Gen project in Daejeon. The plant will produce 3.5 tons per day of fuel cell grade hydrogen to power a fleet of hydrogen trams, marking Utility's first commercial-scale project outside the US and its entry into the Korean low-carbon fuels market. The project is currently moving through front-end engineering design stages, with a final investment decision targeted by June 2027. Daejeon is positioning itself as a hydrogen hub, and this project is the first of several Utility is developing in South Korea. The H2Gen technology converts water into hydrogen and high-purity CO2 using industrial off-gases and biogases, without requiring electricity. This approach aims to reduce costs and complexity for hard-to-abate sectors like transportation, supporting the country's hydrogen economy goals and emissions reduction targets.
