Utility Global signs first commercial H2Gen project in South Korea for hydrogen trams in Daejeon

Utility Global has signed an engineering services agreement with SAMJIN E&I for its first commercial H2Gen project in Daejeon, South Korea. The plant will produce 3.5 tons per day of fuel cell grade hydrogen to power a fleet of hydrogen trams, marking the first project of its kind in the country. The agreement moves the project through front-end engineering design stages, with a final investment decision targeted by June 2027. The H2Gen technology converts water into clean hydrogen and a high-purity carbon dioxide stream using industrial off-gases and biogases, without requiring electricity. This approach reduces costs and complexity around carbon capture and storage. The modular system is designed to integrate into existing industrial infrastructure for applications in steel, refining, petrochemicals, and transportation. This is Utility Global's first commercial low-carbon fuels project outside the United States, following a biogas project in California.
