Researchers have developed a new method to boost green hydrogen production by anchoring single uranium atoms onto titanium dioxide nanorod arrays. By using uranium sourced from nuclear wastewater, the team created asymmetric active sites that significantly lower the energy barrier for the oxygen evolution reaction. This approach resulted in a nearly fourfold increase in photocurrent density compared to standard titanium dioxide. The process simultaneously addresses nuclear waste recovery and improves the efficiency of solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion.
