Researchers have developed a sustainable activated carbon made from pomegranate peels to filter amoxicillin and other antibiotic residues from wastewater. This method turns agricultural waste into a high-surface-area adsorbent, offering a low-carbon alternative to traditional fossil-based activated carbons. Study results show the material effectively binds to pharmaceutical micropollutants through chemisorption. Because the carbon can be regenerated and reused over multiple cycles, it provides a cost-effective way to reduce antibiotic resistance and ecological toxicity in aquatic environments.
