Using Machine Learning to Turn Composting Into a Carbon Sink

By adjusting 19 key parameters, organic waste management can move from emitting greenhouse gases to actively sequestering carbon. Researchers estimate that optimized global composting could shift from emitting 40.1 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent to absorbing 15.1 million tonnes annually. China, Brazil, and the US have the highest potential for these reductions.
