The United States has officially withdrawn its support for the International Maritime Organisation's Net-Zero Framework. During the MEPC 84 session, Washington led a coalition including Saudi Arabia and Panama to oppose the proposed global carbon pricing mechanism for the shipping industry. The US government argues that the framework would unfairly burden American consumers and energy sectors. The IMO has now agreed to form a working group to evaluate alternative proposals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from global shipping tonnage.
