UPROOTY, a South Korean climate tech startup, raised seed funding from NUAC to scale its distributed micro-hydropower systems and carbon credit platform. The company uses low-head turbines to generate electricity from rivers, canals, and discharge water, targeting areas where conventional hydropower is not feasible. A 60kW pilot ran in Kyrgyzstan, and a 500kW smart farm integrated project is underway, with plans for a 10MW commercial deployment. The startup pairs power generation with an MRV framework for carbon credits, and routes waste heat from AI and blockchain data centers to smart farms. The seed round will help build a SaaS platform for carbon credit calculation, registration, and trading. The model aims to address both electricity access and carbon reduction in developing countries, with a circular energy approach that monetizes multiple streams.
