Researchers at Universitat Jaume I have created a new class of absorbents that capture CO2 directly from the air and release it for storage or reuse. The technology works at low CO2 concentrations, including atmospheric levels of 0.04%, and outperforms traditional amine-based absorbents in lab tests. The team has filed a Spanish patent and is seeking partners for commercial scale-up and real-world validation. The absorbents are selective for CO2 and can be integrated into existing carbon capture plants. Applications include environmental engineering, industrial emissions treatment, biogas purification, and chemical manufacturing. The research was supported by the la Caixa Foundation, the Ministry of Science, and the Valencian Innovation Agency.
