Uniper has confirmed plans to invest roughly €5 billion between 2025 and 2030 in European energy security and system transformation. About half of that will go to projects in Germany. The company is targeting flexible power generation, renewables, hydropower, hydrogen-ready plants, and carbon capture compatible assets. By 2030, Uniper aims to operate 15 to 20 gigawatts of generation capacity, with at least half coming from renewable, low-carbon, or decarbonizable sources. The investment is split across three business segments. Flexible Generation gets the largest share, more than half of the total. These are plants that can ramp up or down quickly to balance variable wind and solar output. Uniper plans to bid two hydrogen-ready gas plant projects in Germany, totaling 1.7 gigawatts, into the country's StromVKG tenders in 2026. The Green Generation segment gets about one third of the budget, focusing on solar, wind, and hydropower upgrades. The company aims to make final investment decisions on up to 500 megawatts of solar and wind each year. Uniper is also expanding its gas procurement portfolio to 250 to 300 terawatt-hours, mainly through long-term deals with suppliers like Woodside, Tourmaline, and ConocoPhillips. The company sees a new revenue stream in data center infrastructure, with over 10 company-owned sites identified for development. The investment is backed by roughly €12 billion in equity and a net cash position of €2.8 billion at end of 2025. Uniper holds investment grade ratings from S&P, Scope, and Fitch.
