Uniper picks Worley as EPC contractor for Connah's Quay low-carbon power station with carbon capture
uniper.energyUniper has named Worley as the preferred EPC contractor for its proposed Connah's Quay Low Carbon Power project in Deeside, UK. The project, if consented, would build a new gas-fired power station fitted with carbon capture technology designed to capture at least 95% of its CO2 emissions. The captured carbon would be transported and stored offshore via the HyNet industrial cluster infrastructure. Phase one could be operational from 2030, with a potential capacity of up to 1.38 GW once fully developed. Worley was selected after a competitive FEED process that started in December 2024. The contractor will work with Siemens Energy, SLB Capturi, and construction partners to progress the project toward a final investment decision. A DCO consent application was submitted in August 2025, with a decision expected in the coming months. The project represents a significant step for carbon capture deployment in the UK power sector and is part of Uniper's broader strategy to decarbonize its generation fleet.
