Uniper has submitted a planning application to North Lincolnshire Council for a carbon capture plant at its proposed Killingholme Low Carbon Power project. The project would add carbon capture to a new 550MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power station that already has consent. The capture plant is designed to remove at least 95% of CO2 from the plant's emissions, with a spur pipeline connecting to regional CO2 transport and offshore storage infrastructure developed by third parties. Construction on the CCGT is expected to start in late 2027, and both the gas plant and carbon capture could be operational from 2030. The planning application is part of Uniper's broader push into low-carbon power in the UK, which includes CCS and hydrogen projects. The outcome will depend on permits, pipeline availability, and the final economics of pairing gas generation with carbon capture as the UK moves toward a cleaner power system.
