Uniper has reached an agreement with Airbus UK to reduce the height of chimney stacks for the proposed Connah's Quay low carbon power station. The stacks will now be 145 meters tall to ensure they do not interfere with aircraft flight paths at Hawarden Airport. The project is designated as one of national importance and will connect to the Hynet carbon capture pipeline. This development aims to replace the existing Deeside Power Station with a large scale low carbon facility spanning 105 hectares.

Good to see the planning hurdle cleared, but I am curious about the actual capacity of this plant. Does lowering the stack height by 10 meters impact the emissions dispersion modeling or efficiency of the carbon capture interface?

Usually, stack height is about air quality regulations and dispersion, not the capture tech itself. The bigger story here is the Hynet connection. If the pipeline delivery slips, this whole plant just becomes a stranded asset regardless of how tall the chimneys are.
