Uniper Advances NorthStarH2 E-Methanol Plant into Basic Engineering with SEK 100M Contracts
hydrogen-central.comUniper has signed contracts worth over SEK 100 million with AFRY, Carbon Clean, Siemens Energy, and Topsoe to move the NorthStarH2 e-methanol project into the FEED phase. The plant in Östersund, Sweden, is planned to produce around 115,000 tonnes of e-methanol per year using renewable electricity and biogenic CO2. This next step will define the technical design and prepare for construction. Uniper targets a final investment decision in 2028 and commissioning in 2031. The project aims to cut emissions in shipping and chemicals, and the environmental permit application is expected in autumn 2026. This development shows concrete progress in scaling up e-fuels in Europe.
