The UN Industrial Development Organization, with Germany's International Climate Initiative, launched the TRANSCEND project in the Philippines to help micro, small and medium enterprises reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. The project targets MSMEs in Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Panay Island, Misamis Oriental, and Bukidnon, offering technical training and tools for energy-saving measures. It aims to cut 4,000 MWh of energy and 3,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent over five years. MSMEs make up about 99% of registered businesses in the Philippines but often lack access to efficient technology and financing. The project works with the Department of Trade and Industry to build a Climate-Smart Industry Roadmap and connect businesses to green finance. The goal is to turn energy efficiency into a competitive advantage, lowering operating costs and improving compliance with environmental standards for domestic and export markets.
