The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has recognized Ogun State, Nigeria, for its circular economy initiatives under Project 220145, which aims to advance Nigeria's green transition to net zero. The state's programs include waste segregation, plastic recycling, biomass smokeless stove distribution to 3,000 residents, and adoption of electric bikes and compressed natural gas (CNG) buses to reduce fossil fuel reliance and carbon emissions. Ogun State's Environment Commissioner, Dr. Ola Oresanya, highlighted ongoing projects like the Blue Box Initiative for house-to-house waste segregation, cement industry decarbonization, and community recycling. These efforts align with Nigeria's Energy Transition Roadmap and aim to create economic value from waste while cutting emissions. UNIDO's national field coordinator commended the state for its environmental strides, which have earned international recognition. The workshop focused on data collection and management for used off-grid renewable energy equipment waste, supporting Nigeria's broader climate goals.
