UNEP Warns of 1.5C Overshoot; CFE Advances 60MW Solar, Storage, and Green Hydrogen Project in Mexico
mexicobusiness.newsUNEP now expects global temperatures to temporarily exceed 1.5C above preindustrial levels in the near term, even under the most favorable pathway. Its latest report says an overshoot, peak, and decline path is the best option to limit how high and how long the breach lasts, with a projected peak around 1.8C. Separately, Mexico's CFE plans a 60MW hybrid project in Mulegé, Baja California Sur. Project Oasis combines solar, 20MW of battery storage, and green hydrogen on an isolated grid that currently depends on diesel and fuel oil. CFE says it will serve 40,000 households, cut annual fuel use by 23,000 cubic meters, and avoid over 93,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. The same week, IMP and Veracruz's energy agency agreed to cooperate on energy technology and regional transition, while EDF called for harmonized sustainability rules for fuels like hydrogen and biofuels. For carbon market readers, the CFE project is a concrete example of storage and clean fuel displacing fossil generation in a hard-to-serve region, not an offset scheme.
