The UNDP and electric mobility company TAILG have signed a memorandum of understanding to launch the Green Ride Africa initiative. The project will set up a Green Mobility Centre of Excellence in Kenya to push two and three wheeled vehicles from gasoline to electric power. It also plans to pair those vehicles with local solar panels and battery storage, aiming to cut transport emissions while improving access to mobility across the continent. This is not just a vehicle swap. The partnership is structured around technology development, local industry incubation, and building out charging infrastructure that runs on clean energy. TAILG has worked with UNEP for seven years already. Now with UNDP, the focus is on creating a platform that can scale across multiple African countries. The MOU sets up a framework for long term cooperation, but the real test will be whether the solar plus storage piece gets built at the same pace as the vehicles roll out.
