South Korea's Ulsan Port has successfully conducted the first port-to-ship ammonia bunkering for a commercial vessel. The operation supplied 600 metric tons of ammonia to a dual-fuel gas carrier, demonstrating the technical feasibility of using ammonia as a scalable zero-carbon marine fuel. This milestone addresses critical infrastructure hurdles for the shipping industry. By testing ammonia alongside LNG and methanol, Ulsan Port is establishing a multi-fuel hub to support the global transition away from heavy fuel oils in deep-sea shipping.
