Ulsan City and Korea Zinc have signed an agreement to develop a sea forest in Pyeong-dong, Ulju-gun, with a 100 million won investment from Korea Zinc. The project will plant seaweed and collect waste through June 2027. Sea forests absorb marine carbon and restore coastal ecosystems, making this a practical carbon removal effort tied to corporate funding. This is part of a broader push in Ulsan: four sea forests covering 442 hectares have already been created along the coast. Hyundai Motor is also investing 2 billion won from 2024 to 2027 for a 398-hectare private cooperative sea forest. These projects show how private companies in South Korea are directly funding nature-based carbon sinks with measurable coastal impact.
