UK Solar Power Hits Record 15 GW as Gas Generation Drops to Historic Low

Great Britain's electricity grid reached a new milestone with solar generation exceeding 15 GW for the first time. This surge in renewable output contributed to a record where 98.8% of the grid's energy was sourced from zero-carbon supplies, pushing gas-fired power to a historic low of 1.2%. To manage the increasing frequency of electricity surpluses, the National Energy System Operator is updating its Demand Flexibility Service. The new bi-directional system will reward consumers and businesses for increasing their electricity use during periods of excess solar and wind supply.
