The Low Carbon Hub is developing the UK's first community-owned battery storage system at the Ray Valley solar park in Oxfordshire. The project aims to capture surplus solar energy that would otherwise be wasted during peak production, improving the reliability of clean power and increasing revenue for local sustainability initiatives. By storing 809 MWh of electricity annually, the battery is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 102 tons per year. The project is funded through community shares, allowing local residents to co-own critical green infrastructure and receive a fair return on their investment.
