Encyclis has started construction on the Protos project in Cheshire, the first full scale carbon capture facility integrated with a waste to energy plant in the UK. The plant aims to capture 370,000 metric tons of CO2 annually, with the captured gas transported to Liverpool Bay for permanent offshore storage. Once complete in 2029, the facility will process 500,000 tons of non recyclable waste and generate 49.9 MW of baseload electricity. This project serves as a potential model for decarbonizing other waste treatment sites and hard to abate industrial sectors across the country.
