Loughborough University is leading the ReSurface project to tackle the environmental impact of artificial turf. With 30 million square metres of turf reaching end-of-life annually in the UK, the initiative focuses on developing scalable recycling technologies to separate polymers, rubber, and sand. The project aims to reduce carbon emissions by moving away from a few centralized recycling sites toward a more efficient national network. This effort supports Sport England's goal of achieving 100% approved recycling capacity by 2028.
