UK Recognises India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme for CBAM Relief on Steel, Aluminium and More
timesofindia.indiatimes.comThe UK has added India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) to its indicative list of overseas carbon pricing mechanisms. UK importers of eligible Indian goods can claim relief under the UK CBAM for the carbon price already paid in India, subject to verification. That lowers the effective border charge on Indian steel, aluminium, cement, fertiliser and other covered products once the UK CBAM applies from 2027. India's CCTS is implemented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. The relief amount depends on the effective carbon price paid on the goods. The recognition follows technical talks between India and the UK and is intended to avoid double taxation. The two governments plan to continue cooperation on carbon market design through existing energy and market implementation partnerships.
