energylivenews.comPublic sector bodies across the UK have saved £7.4 million and avoided more than 15,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year through energy efficiency and low-carbon upgrades. The work was delivered under Vital Energi's RE:FIT framework, which has completed over £100 million of decarbonisation projects for local authorities, NHS trusts, and universities since 2016. Projects include LED lighting, rooftop solar, solar farms, battery storage, heat pumps, and building management system upgrades. Swansea Bay University Health Board saved over £1.5 million per year and cut 3,797 tonnes of carbon across four phases. Westminster City Council is running a £23 million programme covering 183 projects, while Aberystwyth University upgraded 20 buildings including a 2.5MW solar farm. A new direct award route aims to speed up procurement and formally incorporates social value criteria.
