UK invests £90m in heat networks to cut bills for 750,000 homes
thetelegraphandargus.co.ukThe UK government has announced £90m in funding for heat networks, which supply hot water from a central source to multiple buildings. The investment aims to cut energy bills and carbon emissions for over 750,000 homes, with projects in Bradford, London, and other areas. One of the biggest schemes is a £41m project in London that will use electric barges to transport hot water along the River Thames, potentially serving 650,000 homes. Other projects include extending networks in Bradford, Solihull, and Bexley, plus upgrades to inefficient systems. The funding also supports efficiency improvements, like the Vega Building in Brighton, where residents save £438 a year after a £200,000 upgrade. The government says the investment will create over 2,000 jobs and reduce reliance on gas.
