UK dairy carbon network farm walk in Corkey to showcase diet changes that cut emissions
farminglife.comA farm walk hosted by the UK Dairy Carbon Network (UK-DCN) on July 7 2026 in Corkey, Northern Ireland, will show how diet reformulation can lower the carbon footprint of dairy production. Host farmers Brian and Ciaran McNaughton will explain how they reduced dietary crude protein by adding protected amino acids to their robotic milking system, cutting nitrogen excretion and ammonia emissions while maintaining a 12,000 litre per cow yield. The event is part of a UK-wide project led by AFBI and funded by DEFRA, working with over 50 dairy farms to test practical emission reduction strategies. The McNaughtons also replaced imported soya with rapeseed meal to lower their feed carbon footprint. Visitors can see the setup and register via AgriSearch or the UK-DCN website.
