Residents in Oxfordshire have raised £440,000 to fund a community-owned battery storage system at the Ray Valley Solar site. The project aims to capture excess solar power generated during low-demand periods, preventing roughly 809 megawatt-hours of clean electricity from being wasted annually. By storing energy and discharging it when demand and prices are higher, the project improves the economics of the solar farm and reduces carbon pollution by an estimated 102 tonnes per year. This model demonstrates how local ownership of energy infrastructure can increase grid resilience and keep financial returns within the community.
