The UK Climate Change Committee has urged the government to speed up electrification and remove policy costs from electricity bills. The independent watchdog says progress on heat pumps and EV adoption is too slow, leaving households exposed to fossil fuel price shocks. CCC Chair Nigel Topping warned that without faster action, both carbon budgets and potential household savings are at risk. The CCC recommends making electricity cheaper by shifting policy costs away from power bills, expanding charging infrastructure, reducing heat pump costs, and speeding up grid connections. Business group CBI backed the recommendations, adding that clarity on hydrogen's role is also needed to deliver a lower cost, decarbonized power system.
