The Mineral Products Association warns that delays in deploying carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies could hinder the UK's ability to meet legally binding carbon budgets. Without these upgrades, the government may struggle to deliver major housing, transport, and energy projects while staying within emissions limits. Analysis suggests that CCUS in cement manufacturing could cut sector emissions by 75 percent by 2035. This would prevent a reliance on high-carbon cement imports and provide the necessary carbon headroom to build 1.5 million new homes.
