UK awards £78 million to expand low carbon heat networks in London, Yorkshire, and West Midlands
energylivenews.comUK government funding of £78 million will support five heat network projects across London, Yorkshire, and the West Midlands. The largest award, £41.63 million, goes to the London Strategic Heat Main, a 25km network using heat from an energy-from-waste facility to serve up to 650,000 homes. Other funded projects include the Riverside Heat Network in Bexley and Greenwich, the Marble Arch Energy Network with water-source heat pumps, and extensions in Bradford and Solihull. The money comes from the Green Heat Network Fund, aimed at cutting heating emissions and replacing fossil fuel boilers. The London project alone is expected to cut heating emissions by about 95% and could unlock over £5 billion in private investment.
