The UK government has approved development funding for Harbour Energy's Viking CCS project in the Humber region. This funding supports technical and commercial work needed before a final investment decision, which is expected within this Parliament. The project aims to transport and store CO2 beneath the North Sea, targeting decarbonization of one of the UK's most carbon-intensive industrial clusters. Viking CCS has already completed front-end engineering design and secured consent for its onshore pipeline. Harbour Energy is working with regulators and local stakeholders to meet readiness and affordability benchmarks. The project is seen as key to keeping Humber industries competitive while supporting skilled jobs and economic growth in the region.
