UConn Talent Incubator Pairs Freshmen with Companies on Real Projects, Including Trane Energy Audits and Campus Carbon Cuts
today.uconn.eduUConn's Tech Park ran a summer pilot called the Talent Incubator, matching first-year students with Connecticut companies on real projects. The program was a hit with everyone involved, and it is set to expand beyond the College of Engineering. One standout project came from Trane. Two engineering students audited eight buildings on the Storrs campus, identified HVAC upgrades and conservation measures, and presented a plan to cut campus carbon emissions by more than 7%. The students got hands-on experience in environmental engineering, and Trane got an early look at potential hires. The next round will bring in more companies and a broader student pool. For anyone tracking the low-carbon workforce, this is a concrete example of how universities and energy services firms can build a pipeline for efficiency work.
