Ucaneo launches Germany's first integrated DAC plant in Berlin with 150 tonnes CO2 capture capacity
gasworld.comBerlin based startup Ucaneo is commissioning a pilot direct air capture plant at its Berlin Marzahn site. The facility can capture 150 tonnes of CO2 per year using an electrochemical process that pulls CO2 from ambient air at over 99.9 percent purity. It is Germany's first DAC plant integrated with geological carbon storage. Captured CO2 will be used for carbon removal credits, sustainable aviation fuel, methanol, or food and beverage products. Ucaneo plans to start construction on a commercial scale plant in 2027 that would capture around 1,500 tonnes annually. The company has set a long term goal of capturing half a gigatonne of CO2 per year by 2035. Siemens is providing automation services to standardize the DAC process. Ucaneo received 1.4 million euros in funding from Investitionsbank Berlin's Profit program, co funded by the European Union.
