UAE human rights body urges safeguards for climate technology
arnnewscentre.aeThe UAE's National Human Rights Institution has called on the UN Special Rapporteur on Climate Change to require human rights and environmental impact assessments across the full lifecycle of climate technologies. The recommendation covers renewables, carbon capture, hydrogen, and AI applications in energy, water, and agriculture, and it pushes back on the assumption that low-carbon tech is automatically safe. The NHRI also wants affected communities brought into decision-making, stronger worker protections, and fairer access to new technologies. It specifically flags risks to people, privacy, land, water, and biodiversity. The report draws on UAE experience in these fields, making it a notable regional signal that climate tech deployment needs more than emissions math.
