Two workers died and three were injured after a carbon dioxide leak during maintenance of a firefighting system at Schaeffler India's Talegaon MIDC plant in Pune. The incident happened around 12:30 pm when a safety device on a CO2 cylinder was removed or malfunctioned, releasing gas into the maintenance area. The deceased were identified as Gaurishankar Sharma (38) and Vaibhav Thorat (24). Three others were hospitalized and are stable. Police registered an accidental death report and are investigating the exact cause. The leak was confined to a restricted equipment room and did not affect other operations at the facility. Schaeffler India, which manufactures bearings and precision components, has informed its headquarters in Germany.
