Two workers killed in CO2 leak at Schaeffler India factory in Talegaon MIDC

The incident happened around 12:30 pm when a safety device on a CO2 cylinder was removed or malfunctioned, releasing gas into the maintenance area. The deceased were identified as Gaurishankar Sharma (38) and Vaibhav Thorat (24). Three others were hospitalized and are stable. Police registered an accidental death report and are investigating the exact cause. The leak was confined to a restricted equipment room and did not affect other operations at the facility. Schaeffler India, which manufactures bearings and precision components, has informed its headquarters in Germany. The incident highlights risks associated with industrial fire suppression systems that use compressed CO2.
