Researchers are developing ways to convert protein-rich food waste, such as soy pulp and dairy whey, into high-performance sustainable materials. These bio-based feedstocks can replace petroleum-based plastics and be used for carbon capture, water purification, and energy conversion. Unlike traditional recycling, this circular framework allows materials to be depolymerized back into amino acids and reassembled. This process helps close the carbon loop by reducing the reliance on non-renewable carbon and lowering greenhouse gas emissions from food waste.
