A Tsinghua University professor says media in the Global South should stop copying Western climate frames and instead build a narrative that connects climate action to development, justice, and technology transfer. Speaking at a CGTN and CIDCA training program, Professor Zeng Fanxu argued that climate reporting in developing countries should focus on transformation problems like industry upgrading, energy security, and social impacts rather than just emissions targets. Zeng pointed to China's green sector including EV batteries, electricity storage, and new grid systems as examples of how climate action can also improve energy security. He noted that a credible story includes tension, such as who benefits and who pays during rapid industrial change. The professor said South-South media should highlight adaptation, technology transfer, and equity instead of copying Western frames that focus mainly on mitigation and targets.
