Trump Proposes Repealing EPA Endangerment Finding for Power Plants, Gutting Clean Air Act Climate Authority
cleantechnica.comThe Trump administration is moving to repeal the EPA's Endangerment Finding for power plants, the 2009 scientific determination that greenhouse gases threaten public health and the environment. That finding is the legal basis for EPA authority to regulate carbon pollution from coal and gas plants under the Clean Air Act. Combined with the earlier repeal for motor vehicles, the proposal would remove federal climate oversight from the two largest sources of U.S. carbon emissions. The administration has also directed more than $700 million in taxpayer funding to the coal industry, even as solar and wind continue to undercut fossil fuel plants on cost. In May 2026, solar generated more electricity than coal on the U.S. grid. The proposal is expected to face legal challenges from environmental groups, including the Sierra Club, which has already signaled it will fight the rule in court.
