Trump EPA set to repeal power plant carbon pollution rules, legal fight ahead

The EPA is expected to formally repeal Biden era carbon pollution limits for coal and gas power plants. Administrator Lee Zeldin plans to announce the move in Houston on the sidelines of a G20 energy meeting, according to Bloomberg and the New York Times. The repeal covers part of a broader rollback that could also remove the legal finding that power plant greenhouse gases endanger public health. That endangerment finding matters beyond this rule. It is the legal foundation the EPA used to regulate CO2 from power plants, and removing it would make it harder for future administrations to write new emission rules. Biden's standards were projected to cut about 1 billion metric tonnes of emissions by 2047, and the power sector accounts for nearly a quarter of US greenhouse gases.
