Transnet National Ports Authority has signed a 25 year agreement with Ukwanda LNG to build an onshore regasification facility at the Port of Ngqura. The project involves a 22 billion rand investment to support a 6,000 MW gas to power pipeline, aiming to provide lower carbon baseload electricity for South Africa's national grid. The development includes a dedicated LNG berth and onshore infrastructure with a target operational date of 2035. This initiative is part of the Just Energy Transition programme to diversify the energy mix and improve national energy security in the Eastern Cape region.
