Trafigura and Egyptalum Partner for $900M Aluminum Smelter in Egypt
discoveryalert.com.auTrafigura and Egyptalum have signed a term sheet to develop a new aluminum smelter and anode plant at the Nag Hammadi complex in Egypt. The project represents an investment of up to $900 million and aims to add 300,000 tonnes of annual primary aluminum capacity to address global supply shortages outside of China. The deal utilizes a vertically integrated commercial model where Trafigura provides minority equity, debt financing, raw material supply, and long-term offtake. By doubling the site's total capacity to 600,000 tonnes per annum, the project strengthens Egypt's position in the global metals market and reduces regional reliance on disrupted supply chains.
