Toyota UK Engine Plant Uses Biogas From Anaerobic Digester to Reach Carbon Neutrality
biomassmagazine.comToyota Motor Europe has started up an anaerobic digester next to its engine plant in Deeside, North Wales. The unit turns about 180,000 metric tons of waste per year into biomethane and electricity, which are delivered to the plant through underground pipes and cables. That replaces conventional fossil energy used in manufacturing. The project is privately funded at EUR 329 million (USD 369.42 million). Toyota says the biogas supply enables carbon-neutral manufacturing at the facility. The value here is the direct link between waste treatment and industrial energy demand, a model that could apply to other manufacturing sites with steady heat and power loads.
