Toyota tests low-carbon biofuels in Philippine motorsports for energy security and carbon neutrality

Toyota Motor Philippines is using its Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup at Clark International Speedway as a rolling laboratory to test low-carbon biofuels. Racecars in the Vios One-Make Races run on an E20 bioethanol blend, while Tamaraw entries use a B5 coco-biodiesel blend. The extreme conditions of motorsports allow Toyota to evaluate performance, efficiency, and reliability under high stress, with results shared to support wider adoption. The initiative supports Philippine energy security by reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels and creates demand for locally sourced feedstock from coconut and sugarcane farmers. Toyota says about three-quarters of its gasoline models are already E20-compatible, and all diesel models are B5-compatible. The company frames this as part of a multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality, diversifying both powertrain technologies and energy sources.
