Toyota starts carbon-neutral engine production at UK Deeside plant using biomethane and recycled aluminium
marketingderby.co.ukToyota has begun carbon-neutral production at its Deeside engine plant in North Wales, the first Toyota manufacturing site outside Japan to make that transition. The plant uses renewable energy, replaces fossil fuels with biomethane from an anaerobic digester that processes local waste, and recycles aluminium from end-of-life alloy wheels into new engine blocks. Toyota says the biomethane supply saves almost 3,000 tonnes of carbon annually. The Deeside site makes engines for Corolla cars assembled at Toyota's Burnaston plant in Derbyshire. Aluminium recovered through the Toyota Circular Factory at Burnaston is sent to Deeside for the engine blocks. The company plans to make all its European manufacturing sites carbon-neutral by 2030, including Burnaston.
