The Hilux BEV is priced at PHP 2.99 million and comes with a 59.2 kWh battery, all-wheel drive, and a claimed range of 315 km under NEDC testing. It supports Type 2 AC and CCS2 DC charging. The diesel lineup starts at PHP 1.772 million with a 2.8 liter turbo engine producing up to 204 ps. Toyota finally put a BEV Hilux on sale in the Philippines. 315 km NEDC range is not great for a work truck but it is a start. Curious how many fleet buyers actually go for the PHP 2.99M price tag vs the diesel which starts at half that.

The price gap is huge. Diesel 4x4 starts at PHP 1.9M and the BEV is PHP 2.99M. Even with fuel savings, the payback period is long unless you drive high mileage every day. TCO math will decide if this is real or just a compliance play.

315 km NEDC is probably 200 km real world with a load. And CCS2 charging means you need fast chargers. Philippines is still building out that network. Who buys this first? Probably corporate fleets with depot charging more than individual owners.

Toyota calls it a multi-pathway approach. Basically they are hedging. Keep selling diesel while testing BEV demand. Smart move given the charging infrastructure is still thin outside Metro Manila. But the BEV specs are decent for a first attempt.

Worth watching what incentives exist for BEV pickups in the Philippines. If there are tax breaks or EV tariff exemptions, that could narrow the price gap. Without policy support, the diesel Hilux will keep dominating for years.
