Toyota Electrified Sales Jump 37.8% in September as Hybrids Drive Growth Amid US EV Slowdown
carboncredits.comToyota reported 117,215 electrified vehicle sales in the United States for September 2026, up 37.8% year over year. Electrified models, including hybrids, plug-in hybrids, battery-electric vehicles, and fuel-cell vehicles, made up 58.2% of Toyota Motor North America's monthly sales. The growth came as sales of gasoline-only models fell 16.5%, and total sales still rose 8.4%, beating the industry forecast of about 6.5%. The company's third-quarter electrified sales reached 363,367 units, up 28.5%, while total sales were nearly flat. Hybrids continue to carry most of the volume. Toyota forecasts electrified sales of nearly 6 million vehicles globally in fiscal 2027, including 598,000 BEVs, more than double the prior year. That forecast points to a strategy that leans on hybrids today while expanding its battery-electric lineup over time. Toyota also narrowed the gap with General Motors in the US market, trailing by about 37,751 vehicles in the third quarter. The sales data show that electrification can drive growth even when BEV adoption slows, but the carbon impact depends on the mix between hybrids and fully electric models.
