Towngas contributes to APEC Urban Energy Report on AI and low-carbon transition with hydrogen and VPP case studies
markets.businessinsider.comTowngas has been recognized as an expert contributor to the 2026 APEC Urban Energy Report, which focuses on how AI can support urban energy resilience and low-carbon transitions. The report includes Towngas' hydrogen application case studies, exploring how hydrogen can back AI computing infrastructure and strengthen city energy systems. Towngas also contributed examples of distributed energy storage, smart microgrids, and virtual power plants as representative AI-enabled urban energy models. Towngas' hydrogen work in Hong Kong leverages a 3,700 km underground pipeline network that already carries about 50% hydrogen. The company is testing extraction of green hydrogen from landfill biogas and deploying hydrogen power generation and EV charging at commercial sites. Its combined heat and power projects in Hong Kong and Shenzhen were included in the 2025 report as high-efficiency clean heating and cooling solutions. The report aligns with the APEC framework for zero-carbon and near-zero-carbon cities, which encourages VPP deployment across the region. Towngas plans to continue advancing zero-carbon industrial parks, smart microgrids, VPPs, and hydrogen energy, aiming to provide replicable urban energy solutions for the Greater Bay Area and the Asia-Pacific.
