TotalEnergies Energy Outlook 2026: Three Pathways to 2060 and Climate Risk Warnings
environewsnigeria.comTotalEnergies has released its Energy Outlook 2026, outlining three possible global energy pathways to 2060. The Trends scenario, which assumes current policies continue, would lead to 2.6-2.8C of warming by 2100. The Momentum scenario, with faster electrification and reduced coal use, projects 2.3-2.4C. The most ambitious Rupture scenario, requiring strong international cooperation, would stay below 2C at 1.8-1.9C. The report finds that low-carbon investment nearly doubled from $1.2 trillion in 2015 to $2.1 trillion in 2025, and that all growth in global electricity demand in 2025 was met by low-carbon sources. China dominates clean tech deployment, accounting for 60% of solar additions, 70% of wind additions, and 60% of EV sales. However, the company warns that current efforts are insufficient to meet the Paris Agreement target, and that geopolitical tensions are reshaping energy strategies.
